Linguistically related to "Tarantism" are "Tarantula", the spider that allegedly inspired the dancing, and the "Tarantella", a modern Italian dance said to resemble the effects of the spider bite.

Yes! I should have explained that in the post :) Originally had "tarantella" as the word but then I found out about tarantism and had to change it.

absquatulate! WOW! That comes close to explaining how my husband's bees "obsconded" sometime during the winter, taking the queen and the honey with them. Only a handful of "rebels" stayed behind. We don't know why bees do this, but maybe like you and your children, claustrophobia closed in ... cabin fever? ... and they escaped to Cabo.

Interesting, hope they return. 😊 And I believe "absquatulate" is a deliberate convolution of "abscond"

I absolutely love these, both the illustrations and the words. I was bitten by a spider in my garden earlier in the week. Thankfully, it didn't result in tarantism which sounds rather impractical 😂

Yes, the constant dancing seems fun at first, but it might get in the way of other important tasks...
