Grant:

I like this collage style. Thanks for sharing. It may not have made it into the book, but it's nice to see it---and to know you've kept it.

P.S. I like the colorscape, too. And gray days.

Absolutely LOVE this. Feels nostalgic for some reason...maybe reminds me of making art in school? I love how the textures feel so real. Amazing to see the process.

Thank you, Keeley! Yes, I know things are working well when I feel like I'm back in kindergarten, trying out an art supply for the first time.

There is a youtube channel (peaceful cuisine) where you understand that making tea is itself an act of meditation, you go through the process to rest. Seeing this wonderful collage makes me think of that. This is not a chore, this is an opportunity to express an enjoy yourself. Its great!

I'm a sucker for collage. I love seeing how you iterate. The best creativity of any kind is non-linear. I now have "Shoplifters of the World Unite" stuck in my head after reading you blasted Morrissey tunes while working on this book. :)

"Iterate" is a much better word than "waste time" - I need to think about my detours that way. I was a Smiths fan before making the book but the Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey cover album got me into his solo stuff.

I love the consistency - continuity - of using lined writing pages to represent different things across the whole collection. Absolutely beautiful work. 🙌

Thank you, Rebecca! It was a fun experiment, and I love the versatility of random scraps of paper.

Working with collage helps me loosen up, since when I use pen or pencil I'm so worried about drawing well. With scissors, it's more shape-making than drawing, and I have fewer artistic hangups! I did a whole book in collage style, which was really fun: https://www.abramsbooks.com/product/blue-floats-away_9781419744235/
