Definitely jumping on the desuetude train… I love exploring (in real life and the idea of exploring) castle ruins, empty warehouse units, and especially barns/silos. I love it when nature mixes with man made to make something entirely new - and usually misunderstood.
Desuetude describes much of the West in Nevada, a plethora of ghosts towns. Watching that video was like taking a tour around Bodie, CA, an old mining town that is kept in stasis as a State Park. And flaneur describes me to a certain extent. I love to jump in the car and wander far afield, too far to saunter for sure, but slow hikes were a joy in years past. Thank you.
Sounds like a fascinating place to visit! I often think of desuetude as a place overgrown with greenery, desert desuetude would be a particularly spooky variety.
There's a good reason why paranormal investigators LOVE Nevada ghost towns. Virginia City and Goldfield have already been featured on Ghost Hunters. My family and I have been on a couple of ghost tours there (it's just around the corner and up the road from where we live). They're great ways to learn history. I even had a conversation with a young miner, surrounded by other "hunters," that we learned died from injuries in a mining accident in Saint Mary's Hospital. It's amazing what we learned with yes/no questions and a K2 meter.
Feliz dia
This is perfectly lovely. However, I don’t see a place to write a little note when ordering the book. I would love for the author to put a little inscription!
Don't be deceived: Desuetude refers only to whether something it being unused, not the effects of its disuse (disrepair or decrepitude, for example). The word desuetude is therefore appropriately used in reference to skills and habits (e.g., "For obvious reasons, during the pandemic my gym etiquette fell into desuetude.")
TIL the etymology of "saunter", as well as some new words. Lovely.

Makes me wish there were more castles to explore in Kansas :) Plenty of old barns and silos, though.
Excellent work again Grant! Love the work on Flâneur especially. Very nice.
Thank you,Timothy!
I love desuetude. A spooky, abandoned amusement park gives all the right vibes for a horror story.
Ack, I knew 3 of the 4. So close!
Wait till next week 😁

I love the word Eudaimonia!

Thank you! Here is the link, if you can't find the place to put the note when you check out, I recommend contacting the bookstore directly: https://www.watermarkbooks.com/store/catalog/grant-snider-signed-copies
Thanks, I already have that link. When the item is in my cart, the only field I can write anything into is the coupon code field.
Thanks for making such wonderful art!
I'd say call Watermark Books, they should be able to help. Thanks again!

Ordered your book and can’t wait to read it! It’s a gift to myself for Poetry Month.
Great timing! Thanks Rebecca, hope you enjoy it.
