Thanks to everyone who read and shared my recent piece “Perfect Words.” The response was overwhelming, and I learned a plethora of wonderful words from the comments. My notebook is overflowing with more perfect words I want to illustrate.
I hope to post four new words each week for my loyal Substack paid subscribers. Soon I’ll have a pocket dictionary full of illustrated words.
Please continue to comment with your favorite words. I’m calling the weekly series “Words of Wonder” and will occasionally share them in public posts. I hope teachers can use them in the classroom, English learners can use them to boost their knowledge of the language, and vocabulary aficionados can delight in words familiar and unfamiliar.
Thanks to my art director at Chronicle Books, Jennifer Tolo Pierce, who created the custom font from my handwriting for my book POETRY COMICS that I’ll be using in this new series. I’m also featuring the characters from the book in this new exploration of language. If you’ve enjoyed these drawings, please pre-order POETRY COMICS online or at your favorite independent bookstore. There’s a Barnes & Noble pre-order promotion today and tomorrow as well.
Okay, that’s enough words for today. More next week!

I love words, and I love learning new words, and I love the words you are illustrating! MuchasGracias!
Adularescence and Schiller - are the two words used by gemmologists to describe that shimmer seen inside moonstones.
