I love making-of posts like this, and am particularly intrigued by "the local bus barn."

Thank you, Julie! I agree, sometimes I like reading process posts more than the book itself... And the "bus barn" is what we call the lot where all the school district's buses are parked when not in use. There's a maintenance shed for when the buses need attention. And the lot is fenced in, I suppose in case the buses try to escape. Maybe that term is a Kansas-specific thing, like eating a school lunch of chili and cinnamon rolls?

OK WOW I had more to say about the bus barn and it's notable lack of barn but now all I want to talk about is chili and cinnamon rolls. !!! This is fascinating. It sounds...delicious? But also I can't quite wrap my brain around it. You could have said any other random foods that are delicious separately but not paired in my world. Mozzarella sticks and vanilla cake! Grilled cheese and oatmeal! Pizza and chocolate chip cookies!

I can confirm it's delicious, especially on a cold fall day. That perfect combination of sweet, savory, and completely unhealthy!
