You are such a fine poet, Grant, both in haiku form and longer poems. It's a delight to read you here and in your books. I'm a big fan of yours in Sacramento, California!
The blasting heat and smokey air are just passing on the East Coast and this morning, I turned off the ACs and opened the windows! Your substack was the cherry on top!
Purrfect catches, glimpses of imaginative neighborhood spaces. I would like to see them printed into a poster size to enhance a special room. You have a gold mine gift of life seeking the best possible location for being. Now I am filled with wonder and look behind the 💭’s shadow. Let there be light.
You have me ready to go down the alleyways looking for whatever pops up! As a young teen we had these grassy alleys behind everyone's fenced in yard. Somehow we found fence breaks and would go through them now and then as "shotcuts". Our pet rabbit used to escape to them, too.😘
I loooove the first line of the wildflowers poem. There is so much there 🩵 I also love seeing the text poem next to the comic. There is always so much underneath the few things we share with the world, in inspiration and drafts and other forms of art expressing the same thing.
You have a lovely talent of illustrating poetry comics and writing poetry. ✨ My journey is somewhat similar except that I was illustration first and then started writing poetry. It's interesting how one art form leads to another. This poem reads like "the giving tree" story . Very beautiful and vivid.
Extra-joyous refreshment flows from this beautiful blend of art and poetry, Grant. So strong, spacious, and freeing! It's restorative, through and through. Tho' my homeplace currently swelters under smoky smog, 'Come With Me' is a clean-sweeping breeze of delight. THIS is what matters -- exploring the unseen in-betweens! Oh, that orange alleycat, the essence of seeking spirit! 🌱🪺 🐦Thank you.
(I do love that each re-reading's rewards go deep, too, like each new listening to special musical creation.)
Lovely. We have always called peonies “ant-flowers.” It makes me happy you see them too.
ant-flowers, I like that term!
Grant, love your poetry and your comics! I resonate with exploring alleyways and the inbetween spaces!
Thank you, Lisa!

Interesting to come to poetry after illustration, I love the connections between the two. And Shel Silverstein is one of my childhood favorites!
That's very interesting. 💕🥹🫶🏻I truly thought of Shel Silverstein as I read your work.
What a lovely interlude in my day! Thank you for posting this, Grant!
