Tour de Frustration

incidentalcomics.substack.com

Welcome to the first installment of the Incidental Comics Substack! I’ll be posting my weekly comics here, as well as some extras for the in-depth reader. Thanks for coming along for the ride.

My next book of comics will be about feelings. I get a feeling of depth and wonder when looking at the paintings of Wayne Thiebaud. He’s well-known for his tactile still-lifes of cakes, pies, and other confections. You can almost taste the layered frosting—except it’s oil paint.

His landscapes (which I sampled for this comic) are mind-opening. The hills and streets of San Francisco are transformed into a colorful wonderland of crazy perspectives. I’ll be visiting the Bay Area in May, but I don’t think I’ll rent a bicycle. I’ll settle for the riding the flat, not-quite-so frustrating bike paths of my hometown of Wichita, Kansas.

For more comics on the inner life, check out my new book THE ART OF LIVING: REFLECTIONS ON MINDFULNESS AND THE OVEREXAMINED LIFE.

You can get signed copies of all my books from my amazing local bookstore, Watermark Books & Cafe. And if you’re outside the US, Book Depository has a great selection of my books with free worldwide shipping.

Thanks for reading Incidental Comics! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

This is the best comic I've ever read. And I've read Garfield.
