The Shimmering Present
Haikomics July, Week 1
My rules for writing (and drawing) haiku:
Capture things I’ve experienced directly. Let the images suggest how it felt. Use as few words as possible.
My motivation, optimism, and energy wax and wane. But why should they remain constant? I’m a person, not a planet.
But even planets, stars, and satellites change. Satellites go through phases, planets wobble in their orbit, and even the brightest stars eventually burn out.
When I’m walking or running outdoors, I get flashes of insight.
Some I chase, others I let fade. Occasionally, I try to catch and hold them.
They glow in my hands. Briefly.
Clouds billowing on the horizon. The open possibilities of morning. Herons and egrets soaring.
Soon the ecstasy of the new day will fade into something more realistic. But for now, it feels like magic.
I’m posting daily-ish haiku comics throughout the month for Haikomics July. Follow along in my Notes to read more.

I love your rules for this series as well as the series.
"Capture things I’ve experienced directly. Let the images suggest how it felt. Use as few words as possible."
I love your work - and more importantly, it has become a touchstone for my morning cup of coffee. It relaxes me, makes me think, changes the course of the day whenever a new email comes in. Thank you! It's like the elixir of life vs the news, any news, which is a death potion
