Sometimes it’s fun to inhabit the vision of another artist. I’ve had a book about Escher sitting on my shelf since high school, and I finally decided to mine it for inspiration. If M.C. Escher were a college student, he’d be the stoned astrophysics major talking your head off at a party. His art is not shy about showing off its own brilliance, but it’s so filled with awe at the complexity of the world that it ends up charming you nonetheless. Impossible objects, shifting tessellations, tricks of perspective—it’s a fun playground to play around in.
