I think everyone (including those of us who don’t think we are creative) experiences all of these more often than we would like to admit. It’s so reassuring to see professionals get these kinds of experiences too! 🥰
There’s also my least favourite (and bane of my school days/anytime I need to write at length) the ‘whoosh’ thought - as in ‘I had a great thought, but it went by (whoosh) before I could capture it’. Ugh! 🙄
Hooray for the Opal app! I'm so glad you found it useful. Seriously, thank you for sharing your brilliant advice about going to a university library. I live pretty close to Emory University and might put that one to practice soon.
Another one you might like is "Tab Limit!" It's a free Chrome extension that only allows you to open a certain number of apps, which you can set and adjust as needed. It's annoying, but keeps me from getting lost in a million tabs!
Also happy to report my permanent bottom retainer stayed in for nearly 30 years! Dentist glued it back and it fell out again the next day. Hooray for orthodontic arts! 😬
Som brilliant thoughts and observations here. Some people have egos that stretch for days but the rest of us will always question our own abilities despite the evidence. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes.
How do we request signed copies when we purchase the books through Watermark? Is there an option at the end? These will be holiday gifts for everyone this year!
Yes, there will be a place to leave a note when you check out! And you can also call the store directly, they are great about helping with those requests. Thanks Reda!
Love this, Grant! Your words mean as much as your drawings! You’ve explained writers’block, self doubt, self-assurance and persistence brilliantly here! Well done, sweet man! 🫶👍🙌☺️
So true. I often find myself enthused about an idea one minute and then wondering if it’s actually not something someone has already said in the next minute.
"Maybe everything worth making has already been made.
But it’s up to you to make it again.
To tell a familiar story in your own words. To play the same chords on an unfamiliar instrument. To write yet another poem about the moon, but to compare it to something wholly unexpected.
To take old ideas and make them new."
Wonderfully put, thank you for sharing all of this!
I have a new mantra: Embrace not knowing what you are doing. And do it anyway.
Thank you.

Thank you Beth, really enjoyed the interview! And I’ll be checking out that extension as well :)
I’m enjoying yours now!

Ha, must be a new world record for a bonded retainer! Thanks for listening 😊

Yay! I got 5 books!
Amazing, thanks!
Thanks!
Thank you for this one! I think it came at just the right time for me. Just keep swimming!
Thank you!

Thanks for this humor and wisdom.
Apparently, wondrous art springs from self doubt; bravo!

I love this so much!
I love your work, thank you for sharing it!

Just what I needed to know. Thanks Grant :)
Dear Grant,
Beautiful piece!
I love this section a lot:
"Maybe everything worth making has already been made.
