Awesome. I love the ‘draw and interesting tree’, particularly the reminder to not assume we know what a tree looks like, and that nature makes weird shapes (yes!!) and next level awesome - write an onomatopoem!!!
Oh YES! to this kind poke-in-the-ribs, Grant -- thanks for the gift of so many tasty options. As someone who slips too often into 'false urgency', focused on what hasn't even happened yet, I find these open-up tips irresistible.
Hmmm, which one!? ... Okay: in a moment, I'll be 3-colour sketching the young tree out back .Just now, sweet sunny highlights grace its bare limbs! Then ... which of the REMINDERs (copied out) invites the next soul-treat ...?
"No Need to Rush" and "Be Here Now" are key mantras for me when my inner excited puppy spins into a dither. These actual examples and gentle instructions re 'howl' do ignite something real here. Thank you.
They are such inspirational reminders, Grant. Thank you for sharing your post-it notes and your sketchbook pages that go with them. Makes it so easy for me to get started. Also, I never heard of an onomatopoem 🙃. I just recently got invited to draw the sounds I hear, which is very interesting, too, and now I add an onomatopoem to the sound experience 🎼.
Big adjustment for me on every element- I live in a warehouse between a freeway and a high speed road with truck traffic. No trees, animals or pleasant open space. Appreciating what I’ve got- space for woodwork, a roof over my head, top ramen, water and a bathroom. I’m so lucky!
Bravo, I like all techniques you summarized here. and even more, I think the eyes, the ear, the nose , we can tune up all of them to make the best out of it when we are out there. Thank you for listing these wonderful reminders.
Love this! Thanks for the tree inspiration - three colours! 💚

These reminders are so simple and yet so profound! Love this and trying them all ❤
This is beautiful. I'm inspired to get out my coloured pencils and sketchbook :)
Would love to see what you create!
You actually inspired me to get out my pencil and sketchbook. I drew a potted plant earlier, thank you :)

Thank you, Daniela! I made up the onamatopoem (I think), glad these spark some ideas and would love to see what you come up with.
So you made up that interesting new kind of poem. Who knows, maybe you just set a new trend for poems 🤩.
Love this as I do all your creative exercises! Thanks for getting us back in touch with our playfulness and imagination 🤍
I mean, this actually nearly made me cry. So exactly what I needed to be reminded of right now. Thanks
Aw, glad to hear that!
